Who are we? Pwy ydym ni?

We are the Criw Cymraeg of Maerdy Primary School.  We chose to join the Criw Cymraeg because we are very interested in improving the use of Welsh in our school and in the community.

Our aim is to help and encourage all pupils at Maerdy Primary to speak and learn Welsh in a fun way.

Cymraeg Campus at Maerdy Primary

We are a Cymraeg Campus Bronze School.

Recognised with the Bronze Award

We have been awarded the Cymraeg Campus Bronze Award for our work in growing a strong Welsh ethos across our School.

This means we are helping children to use more Welsh every day in class, on the yard and at home, and that our whole community values the Welsh language and culture.

We are now working towards the Silver (Arian) Award. To reach Silver, Welsh needs to be even more visible in our School, used more confidently by learners and staff, and celebrated through a wider range of activities.

Our next steps include:

• adding more Welsh to classroom displays and around the School
• giving the Criw Cymraeg an even bigger role in leading assemblies and events
• using more digital tools to record and share Welsh speaking
• planning extra Welsh enrichment activities, clubs and visits
• continuing to support all learners to feel confident and proud to use Welsh.
